Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Autism

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Autism

I've been taking hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) a few times in the past and was curious to find out if it might have something to do with my child's autism. My hyperbaric chamber for home is at the Masters for excellence in hyperbaric oxygen therapy and is also home to several autistic adults and their families. I also took an MRI on one of my daughters, too, which gave me some insight into what might be going on in her brain. The results of that test were inconclusive. Since hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a relatively new treatment for autism, it is hard to know if it can help or not. My hunch is that it might, but there are still more studies to be done.

I'm not a doctor but I did take an x-ray technician course when I was in college. I don't know whether the hyperbaric chamber for home affected her brain or not, but I do know that she seemed less anxious than usual. She didn't seem to be anxious around me. In fact, I think she might have been more hyperbolic than me! I think we may have found a hyperbaric oxygen therapy method that works better for autistic adults and kids.

Autism is a very complicated condition and there isn't yet complete agreement on how to treat it. There is some evidence linking hyperbaric oxygen chambers with a reduction in stress and anxiety. People with autism generally suffer from certain behavioral problems, including tantrums and resistance to changes. The Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Autism for home offers an alternative to the many different methods that are used to treat these problems.

There are some other benefits to hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well. During the treatment, your body is basically defrosted. The effects of this are quite calming, almost meditative. It can even help relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety. Some people have reported increases in the speed of thought and learning.

As I said, hyperbaric therapy for autism is a relatively new treatment. It has only been recently that pressurized air was added to the environment. The hyperbaric chamber is about the size of a large refrigerator and looks very simple. It's tucked away in a cupboard. You don't have to worry about it being exposed to children or pets.

If you are considering home hyperbaric units, you should visit your local medical supply store or your local home improvement store. You could also ask your doctor for a recommendation. A lot of people seem to think they're the same as a hyperbaric oxygen concentrator.

If you are considering hyperbaric therapy for your child with autism, remember that he or she will be most receptive to it when they are in their early developmental stages. You want to get them there at the right time, before they start to lose resistance or skills. This is why a visit from a doctor or health professional is so important. If it's something you consider wanting to try, you should do your homework to find a good, certified home operator. There are many operators and not all of them are certified.

Before you make your final decision, take the time to visit a hyperbaric therapy facility near you. That way, you can get a first-hand look at how it works. I highly recommend hyperbaric oxygen therapy for anyone suffering from autism, attention deficit disorder, or cerebral palsy. It could save their life. Don't wait; make your appointment now.
